![]() The PlayStation VR2 is an impressive piece of virtual reality technology, but it lacks killer apps outside of Horizon: Call of the Mountain. There are three specific things I need to see from Sony if that PlayStation Showcase does come to fruition. With only Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 confirmed to be on the horizon for 2023, Sony has a lot to prove during its next showcase. PlayStation has had a rough start to 2023, with console exclusive Forspoken garnering mixed reviews, the PlayStation VR2 impressing critics while underperforming in sales, and The Last of Us Part 1’s PC port being broken at launch. A third-party focused State of Play happened in 2022, but now Video Games Chronicle’s Andy Robinson and Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb are both suggesting that a more first-party oriented "Showcase" could be on the way sometime during the next month, potentially during the week of May 25. ![]() ![]() It’s that time of the year again when industry insiders are teasing that a big PlayStation Showcase will happen around June. Hopefully, this means that a remaster, remake, or third entry in the Gravity Rush franchise could be a future possibility despite its developer, Japan Studio, having been shut down last year. Sony’s film and movie adaptations usually coincide with game releases, such as the release of the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection alongside the Uncharted movie, as well as The Last of Us Part 1 remake and the game’s HBO show adaptation. ![]() This announcement and the Uncharted director’s teasing of a Jak and Daxter film indicate that Sony isn’t afraid of adapting its more cartoonish franchises. Gravity Rush certainly leans into the more Japanese and anime sensibilities than properties like Uncharted and The Last of Us, the former of which saw a theatrical movie release earlier this year and the latter of which will receive an HBO TV show next year. While details on the project as still fairly light, Gravity Rush is an interesting choice to adapt to film as it is different from the more realistic PlayStation franchises that PlayStation Productions has adapted so far. EXCLUSIVE: PlayStation Productions and Scott Free Productions have launched development on ‘Gravity Rush’-a film based on the 2012 action-adventure video game of the same name, which Anna Mastro is attached to direct from a script by Emily Jerome ![]()
